[unpadchoir.com Bandung, 6/6/2023] The Internal Concert of PSM Unpad is once again held offline on May 31, 2023, at 7:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesia Time) at Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata, Unpad Dipati Ukur Campus. This concert marks the 18th edition of the PSM Unpad Internal Concert titled “Nawasena,” involving the two youngest generations, namely the 2021 and 2022 batches. The event is organized by the 2022 batch.

This Internal Concert aims to create new generations who understand and embrace the principles, values, and activities of PSM Unpad. Additionally, the concert serves as a learning platform for the young generation to experience choral singing, particularly at the university level.

This year’s Internal Concert takes its theme from the Sanskrit language, “Nawasena,” which signifies a bright future. The tagline for this concert is “One Hope Gives Birth to Beautiful Voices.” “Nawasena” represents the aspirations of the young members of PSM Unpad to achieve a bright future through the collective efforts of the concert team in enhancing their singing skills.

THE PRESENCE OF 5 NEW SESSIONS THIS YEAR ASTOUNDS

“Nawasena” Concert features different sessions compared to the 17th Internal Concert “Senandika”. In the Senandika Concert, there was only one ‘Classical’ session and a ‘Broadway’ session, while this year, the ‘Classical’ session is divided into two, namely ‘Historical Classical’ and ‘Contemporary Classical’.

The five showcased sessions consist of the ‘Historical Classical’ Session by Jasmine Azzahra Triatmojo, ‘Contemporary Classical’ Session by Muhammad Al Riyadh, ‘International Song’ Session by Ivanna Shelma Taofani, ‘Popular Song’ Session by Birgitta Fortune Mumpuni N.N., and ‘Indonesian Folk Song’ Session by Bunga Denisa Nafarin.

Historical Classical

In this session, classical songs from the Medieval to Romantic eras are performed. Historical classical songs tend to follow specific rules and conventions developed during certain periods of time. For example, classical songs from the Baroque era have distinct harmonic patterns, while the Romantic era songs tend to be more expressive and emotional.

Contemporary Classical

The songs performed in this session are contemporary classical songs, which have more freedom in composition and unconventional chord progressions. Contemporary classical songs often combine various influences and musical styles from previous periods.

International Song

This session features captivating songs from various countries such as Brazil, the Philippines, Sweden, and India. Each song carries a different presentation style as each country has its unique musical characteristics.

Popular Song

The ‘Popular Song’ session includes songs that are well-known in the present time. Interestingly, this Nawasena concert showcases a genre rarely performed in choral arrangements, which is dangdut. Other genres featured include jazz, pop, and disco pop.

Indonesian Folk Song

True to its name, the ‘Indonesian Folk Song’ session presents songs from different regions in Indonesia, including Maluku, West Java, and South Sulawesi. The session incorporates choreography inspired by the traditional dances of each song’s origin.

RESPONSES FROM THOSE BEHIND NAWASENA

Khairunnisa Inayah, also known as Naya, the chairperson of the 18th PSM Unpad Internal Concert “Nawasena,” shared her impressions of the concert: “As the chairperson, this Nawasena concert left a deep impression not only on me but on all Nawasena members, not just the singers. For us, the class of 2022, Nawasena holds a special meaning as it is our first concert as the youngest generations. Through Nawasena, we learned the values of togetherness, solidarity, and family. My message to the next generations is to utilize this internal concert as a platform for personal development, both in event management and vocal techniques, fostering a sense of unity and ownership among voices and generations,” Naya expressed.

Arvin Zeinullah, the head coach of PSM Unpad, shared his response, saying, “The internal concert is a highly anticipated event for all PSM members. This year’s concert is different from the past few years as it is held fully offline after dealing with limited situations during the pandemic. The number of internal concert participants has also increased, and this is a great moment for PSM Unpad to shape its members, especially Unpad students, to develop positive character traits. Seeing the 2021 and 2022 generation members on stage and reaching this stage fills me with pride and a sense of accomplishment after overcoming several challenging years for PSM.”

Arvin also mentioned that in preparation for Nawasena Concert, the entire Nawasena team had worked hard, dedicating their energy, time, and effort. He expressed satisfaction with witnessing the fully offline concert after the exhausting pandemic. Arvin’s message to all the members is to be grateful, thankful, and maintain a high spirit to become better individuals.

Two of the five conductors, Bunga Denisa Nafarin and Jasmine Azzahra Triatmojo, also shared their impressions of the concert. Bunga said, “Throughout the months of our practice, I am personally satisfied with the results. I am delighted with the performances of my friends, from the first session to the final song. I am proud to hear what we have trained and learned so far. This concert is a first step for me as a conductor and for the class of 2022 as singers. Through this concert, I learned many new things, such as how to convey my knowledge to my friends. I was initially surprised because many of this year’s generation members already had strong vocal skills, so my role was to continuously explore and develop their talents. From our first meeting in the New Member Acceptance Program (RPAB) until now, performing on the stage of the internal concert has been a remarkable journey. I am proud of my friends, and I feel successful witnessing their development from our initial journey until today.”

Jasmine also expressed her thoughts on the internal concert and hoped that the singers would continue to grow and learn in PSM Unpad. She said, “Thank you to my friends for giving me the opportunity to learn and become a better conductor, a better teacher, and a better sibling. I hope to meet you all again in future activities if given the chance. I hope you all continue to grow and learn a lot from PSM Unpad to fulfill your dreams and aspirations. I believe PSM Unpad has a lot to offer in terms of personal development, not only in singing or organization but also in various aspects of life.”

The Internal Concert left an interesting impression and message for the singers, as expressed by Alifatunnisa Hafidza, also known as Alifa, a member of PSM Unpad and part of the Internal Concert Nawasena’s singers. Alifa said, “Honestly, this year’s internal concert left a lasting impression on me personally in many ways. It taught me to multitask, manage time and maintain health amidst busy activities. Despite the busyness, many friends supported each other, and it felt wonderful. My message is for future internal concerts to be even better. May the members of the class of 2022 build stronger bonds among themselves and with the class of 2021 and other seniors. May we always stay strong and make progress in all PSM activities, including concerts, RPAB, rehearsals, and more.”
