The Padjadjaran University Choir (PSM Unpad) once again made Indonesia proud through its victory in the 2024 Singapore International Choral Festival (SICF) competition in Singapore, Wednesday (31/07/2024).
Unpad Choir won the Gold Medal Champion in the Mixed Voices Open category with a score of 90.10 and the Gold Medal in the Sacred Open category with a score of 88.47 through a stunning performance on stage.
The Head of the SICF 2024 Delegation Team, William Immanuel, expressed his gratitude for the award received by the SICF team. William said that the SICF 2024 program was a very valuable learning moment for the team, especially for active students who were experiencing the euphoria of competing for the first time.
“Praise God, with the preparation and struggle so far, we were able to become the winner of the Mixed Voices Open category and become one of the finalists in the Grand Prix round of this competition. It was truly a very valuable experience and learning experience for us to be able to reach this point and bring home these awards,” said William.
Unpad Choir’s Main Coach, Arvin Zeinullah, said that the SICF competition has a good reputation, and it seems that in the future it will become an increasingly interesting competition for many countries. In addition, the fun competition atmosphere can also create a space for interaction between choirs in the world.
“I hope that this will be an encouragement for Unpad Choir to continue to move forward and share experiences through inspiring stories to other friends directly or through their respective social media,” said Arvin.
In this competition, Unpad Choir performed several songs in the Mixed Voices Open and Musica Sacra Open categories. In the Mixed Voices Open category, Unpad Choir sang Si, Ch’io Vorrei Morire (Arr. Claudio Montaverdi), Doxologia (Arr. Ily Matthew Maniano), and Malin (Arr. Bagus S. Utomo). Then, in the Musica Sacra Open category, they sang Unser Keiner Lebet Sich Selber, SWV 369 (Arr. Henrich Schütz), The Conversion of Saul (Arr. Z Randall Stroope), and Sanctus (Arr. Ivan Yohan). Next, in the Grand Prix round, Unpad Choir performed Fajar and Senja II (Arr. Ken Steven).
