BANDUNG – Just one week away, the cultural mission team of Padjadjaran University Choir, Indonesia Kirana 2017 will fly to Europe to join the 54th International Competition of Choral Singing at Spittal an der Drau, Austria.

Austria is a central of European choir music since the last 50 years. A pride for Indonesia, especially in the field of music and choir, given the Unpad Choir managed to be the only representative of Indonesia and Asia in this competition. In addition to compete, PSM Unpad will also hold a cultural concert entitled Pagelaran Indonesia Kirana in Vienna, Austria.

Before heading to Europe, Unpad Choir had already completed a series of pre-competition concert entitled Pagelaran Indonesia Kirana at Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata Bandung (28/5) and Graha Swara Jakarta (3/6). Accompanied by conductor Arvin Zeinullah, 43 singers who became members of the team exert their best ability in the concert before dispatched to Europe.

Pre-competition concerts are divided into two sessions. Twenty songs were performed by Unpad Choir in the concert. The song by Sara Teasdale’s Evening started the first session of the concert. The session is filled with some classical choir songs by world-class composers that Unpad Choir will perform in the copetition, including Ave Maria by Indonesian composer Ivan Yohan, Johannes Brahms’s Es Geht Ein Weien, and Readymade Alice by Pertu Haapanen.

Unpad Choir also performed traditional Indonesian song arrangements during the second session of the concert. Some of them are Paris Barantai and Benggong by young Indonesian composer Ken Steven, and Soleram by Josu Elberdin. The three songs will be performed in the Folklore category in a choir competition that will last for three days starting from July 6, 2017.

Arvin Zeinullah, conductor Unpad Choir explained, in the concert the singers were tested to begin to train self-management. The singers are required to focus on several things such as the dynamics and deepening of each song’s taste. He expected, the condition of most of the fasting singers are not a barrier to give the best appearance.

Fernandes, Project Officer of Indonesia Kirana 2017 added several things related to the smoothness of the program. He explained, the entire series of Indonesia Kirana 2017 will be held properly if this step is fully supported by the entire people of Indonesia. Support and assistance from all parties will help the implementation of all activities of Indonesia Kirana while in Europe.
