[unpadchoir.com 8/12/20] The Intern Concert is a concert that is undertaken and organized by the two youngest batches of Unpad Choir. The intern concert this time is different from the previous ones. The reason is that this time it had to be held virtually. The 2020 Intern Concert was broadcasted via YouTube Private on Sunday, December 6, 2020, which was viewed by more than 200 viewers. This time, the intern concert entitled “Gala Kelana” is presented in a concept that tells about how the two youngest generations, especially the youngest generation, namely the batch of 2019, started their journey at Unpad Choir.
In the Intern Gala Kelana Concert this time there were four conductors in the four sessions of this concert consisting of Nauval Revy Faradis as the conductor of the international song session, Adam Prana Surya as the conductor of the classical song session, Helena Oryza Yuanita as the conductor of the Indonesian folk song session, and Marselina Viase Sinurat as the conductor popular song session. Each session brought one song, except for the popular song session which brought two songs. The concert was opened with the popular song session featuring the song “Reflection” (Comp. Matthew Wilder & David Zippel, Arr. Mac Huff).
“For me, Gala Kelana feels like it’s been ‘saved’ for the end of the year because, in terms of the virtual choir concept, it really describes what happened from the beginning of the process to the end (of the concert) and the atmosphere we felt at that time was also reflected,” Kitara Enggar, the Head of the 2020 Intern Concert, said.
The intern concert itself was initially being held offline. However, due to the pandemic, all face-to-face activities have become impossible, including this year’s intern concert. Preparations for the concert had also stopped and experienced a transition. Many things that were first experiences happened in the process. Fangfang Jasmilah, as treasurer of the intern concert, admitted that she was confused by this transition.
“There were many activities which were crucial for this internal concert that could not be carried out. Initially, I was confused, but after many negotiations with the committee and the seniors, finally it was able to continue.” Fangfang said.
Rehearsals are one of the most crucial things in an intern concert. The rehearsals that were initially carried out by the entire intern concert team face-to-face, now have to be done through video communication services. Various technical problems can certainly occur during rehearsal, especially problems with internet connection. This was especially true for Nauval Revy Faradis as one of the conductors who felt confused because there was one singer who suddenly stopped singing when his voice was being tested. However, the team of singers and the coaches help and encourage one another.
Ivanna Taofani as one of the singers argued, “Online practice was extraordinary, it was unusual and the adjustment process took time. However, yes, I couldn’t help but just refine it, anyway, the situation is like this. I really couldn’t imagine what this intern concert would be like because there were many singers at the intern concert and they had to divide it up (the practice) so you couldn’t see what other groups were like. I couldn’t imagine how it would be.”
Apart from some of the obstacles that were faced at this concert, the intern concert was quite successful. All kinds of feelings were felt by the singers along with the broadcast of the concert.
“Even though there were still a lot of inadequacies, I am very relieved that the committee that was working from the beginning of the year and after experiencing various obstacles it was finally over and could be carried out even though it was hindered by the pandemic,” said Kitara.
“At that time, even though there were other activities, I wanted to watch together with my parents, and my feelings at that time, even though the concert was held online, I was very relieved because finally the concert was held! In the end, my struggle with the others paid off. That, I’m also proud of myself for being able to go this far because at first, I lacked confidence in myself. Especially when I saw the comments column, I was delighted and I still couldn’t believe it! ” Fangfang said. In addition, Ivanna also said that the energy from the seniors of the Choir who watched the virtual choir could be felt by her, especially the energy that encouraged her.
“I am glad and relieved that finally this virtual internal concert was held even though it had a different concept. Unfortunately, there were some programs that must be removed from the concept that could’ve been applied (if it were done the offline way). My message to the singers of this internal concert who are the next generation of Unpad Choir is, hopefully this concert could improve the singers’ vocal technique even though it was all done from our homes. I also hope that this concert can be a hope for all of us so that we can sing together again after the pandemic. May all of us be blessed with health and happiness so that we can meet and sing again,” said Nauval.
