[BANDUNG, unpadchoir.com] – The Student Choir of Universitas Padjadjaran (PSM Unpad) concluded the series of New Member Acceptance activities (RPAB) by holding the Inauguration Night on November 22, 2024. This three-day, two-night event was designed to provide a deep understanding of the culture, values, and dynamics of the PSM Unpad organization to the new members of the 2024 batch.
The first day was focused on an in-depth introduction to the organizational structure, culture, and values that form the foundation of PSM Unpad. The new members were also introduced to the akang teteh (mentors), who play a crucial role in guiding them. The second day marked a significant moment with the Choir Festival, the result of intensive rehearsals that had taken place since the beginning. On the same day, the new members were solemnly inaugurated through the wearing of the slayer, accompanied by the song “Syukur,” which became the official symbol of their joining the PSM Unpad family.
Additionally, the series of events included the School of Concert Management (SOCM), an educational program that provided the new members with insights into concert planning and execution. SOCM aims to prepare them to become skilled individuals in managing large-scale programs in the future, including internal concerts of PSM Unpad.
The highlight of the event took place on the third day, starting with a sharing session from alumni, providing inspiration to the new members. Afterward, the enthusiasm of the new members reached its peak with the announcement of the best group in the nominated categories. The event closed with performances of special songs, such as “Sithi Molweni,” “Trashin’ the Camp,” and “Masa Kecilku,” performed by the committee and akang teteh alumni.
The Chairperson of the New Member Acceptance Series (RPAB), Khairunisa Innayah, shared her thoughts: “My view of the Inauguration Night or the New Member Acceptance Series (RPAB) of PSM Unpad is that this activity is very important and strategic in building a strong foundation for the journey of new members in the world of choirs, especially in PSM Unpad. This event not only provides technical insights and group singing experiences, but also introduces the values, culture, and togetherness that are characteristic of PSM Unpad. Through this event, the new members not only learn how to sing, but also understand how to become part of a big family with a shared purpose.”
“The most memorable aspect, which can only be experienced at the Inauguration Night, is the Choir Festival (FPS). This moment offers a unique experience for the new members because they not only apply the singing techniques taught by the akang teteh during the RPAB series, but also feel how synergy within a choir group can create beautiful harmony. FPS is a challenging yet enjoyable event, as here, new members practice overcoming nervousness, building confidence, and experiencing incredible camaraderie within their small teams. This is an experience hard to find outside the PSM environment, especially with the warm atmosphere that envelops all the members of PSM Unpad,” said Naya.
Naya also added that the simulation as a concert committee during the Inauguration Night became a valuable and memorable experience. The new members were invited to directly participate in the behind-the-scenes process, understanding teamwork, responsibilities, and the importance of small roles in the success of a large event. This strengthened their sense of ownership of PSM Unpad while equipping them with skills that will be useful in the future.
